My father always told me that if you work hard, success will follow. I grew up in Singapore, where most opportunities between men and women seemed equal. However, I spent a significant amount of time in India and I often saw that no matter how hard some worked, success did not necessarily follow. It made think a lot about what success meant to different people, living different realities. For some, it meant having enough food to feed themselves and their family for a day. Just one day.
I have been dedicated to the cause of financial inclusion, especially for women, for most of my working life now. I truly believe that we can make a difference to many if we assist them in finding ways to help themselves become successful - however they define it. Helping them with a hand up, instead of a hand out. I'm proud to be a part of the Mahila group to have a platform in Dallas that works towards helping redefine the future of many women in India through financial empowerment.
